Lo'ihi Seamount
Now, we've traveled away from the coast of North America towards the Hawaiian Islands. Here, we'll find our 2nd destination, the Lo'ihi Seamount, which is located southeast of Mauna Loa, or the Big Island. A seamount is a underwater volcano. It's called an island now, but when it breaks throught the water's surface, the Lo'ihi Seamount will be the newest part of the Hawaiian Island chains. Compared to continental crust, seamounts are denser since they're made of mafic materials. Continental crust is typically thicker than oceanic crust, though, so they are 2 different types of landforms.
