Mariana Trench
Our last part of the tour is the Mariana Trench. It's located in the western part of the Pacific Ocean, directly to the east of the Mariana Islands. This trench goes deeper than anything in the world with it being 1,580 miles deep. The Mariana Trench is about 43 miles wide, and it's very cold here with temperatures between 34 and 39 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure you bring your insulated parka! We can't get out at this destination, though, because the water pressure is too high. It puts 8 tons on every square inch! The Mariana Trench formed because the Pacific plate is subducting underneath the Mariana Plate. This trench is mainly made of dark and heavy mafic materials since it's oceanic crust.
